Who is the Maria behind MSPT?
Originally from Massachusetts, I moved to Charleston in 2019 to teach first grade. With my love for the sun, the beach, and staying active, it felt like the perfect place to call home. Looking for a second job, my passion for fitness led me to the front desk at a local gym, where I quickly became a certified trainer. After taking on a few clients, it was clear that training was my true calling, and I eventually transitioned to the gym full-time. It was hands down the best decision I’ve ever made.
I took everything I had learned from teaching—how to explain concepts clearly, motivate others, and build strong relationships—and applied it to fitness training. It’s been amazing to see my clients thrive and develop a passion for movement just like I did.
My own fitness journey started a few years after college. I began in the world of racing, competing in triathlons and road races, but soon realized my true passion was weightlifting and yoga. I was amazed at how quickly I built strength, and I found myself lifting weights 5–6 days a week. Along the way, I made great friends at the gym and learned as much as I could from them.
Now, I balance weight training with a personal yoga practice, always striving to incorporate as much movement into my day as possible. Teaching fitness is my dream job, and I love watching my clients discover the joy of exercise and grow stronger both physically and mentally.
